POSITION TITLE: SPEECH THERAPIST/DISTRICT WIDE
QUALIFICATIONS:
JOB DESCRIPTION: Reports to: Director of P.P.S Department: Pupil Personnel Services

JOB SUMMARY:
The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for providing an appropriate program of remediation for children with communication disorders. The Speech-Language Pathologist will be responsible to the Director of Pupil Personnel, the Principal, and the Program Resource Specialist. The Speech-Language Pathologist will direct the activities of a speech instructional aide, if one is provided. When a home program is appropriate, the clinician will direct the home program and provide the necessary materials. The Speech-Language Pathologist will serve as a consultant to school personnel, agencies, and parents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Effectively utilizes district technologies appropriate to the position and assumes responsibility for attending district training needed to successfully perform designated responsibilities as directed by supervisor.

• Identifies children with communication disorders.

• After evaluating the child, establishes appropriate therapy goals and implements therapeutic techniques.

• Maintains coordination between general curriculum areas and therapy activities.

• Maintains accurate and current student files.

• May assist with the District’s Hearing Services Program.

• Develops and implements a Language Enrichment Program with the regular classroom teacher.

• Acts as mentor to all other Speech Therapists and supervises any interns for compliance issues and service delivery.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to communicate effectively with educational team.

• Possess excellent communication skills, especially with parents.

• Communicates with peers.

• Exhibits leadership skills as department had and fosters good working relationships among the department.

EXPERIENCE:

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Hold a current Speech and Language Therapy Certificate issued by the State Department of Education.

• Master’s Degree plus Certificate of Clinical Competence preferred.

• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

• C.F.Y. Supervision Eligible.
