Education/Certification Required:
*Bachelor’s Degree

Experience Required:
*Minimum of three (3) years of successful special education classroom teaching
*NCI certification preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
*Knowledge about learning styles, curriculum, and modifications
*Knowledge of legal mandates regarding special education
*Knowledge and usage of Behavior Intervention strategies
*Knowledge of social skills intervention for students with autism
*Performs all duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in District policy and Texas Education Code of Ethics
FUNCTION:
The Classroom Teacher (Itinerant Autism) provides support to campus staff and provides instructional strategies to students with Autism. The Classroom Teacher (Itinerant Autism) also participates in selecting, planning, organizing, and evaluating materials with the Program Coach and classroom teacher. The Classroom Teacher (Itinerant Autism) has a working knowledge of the general operations of special education and the District.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS:
*Plans with school and special education staff in developing and implementing an Individualized Education Program (IEP) with identifiable steps designed to assist students with Autism.
*Identifies the learning styles of students to make the appropriate modifications in curriculum and teaching strategies.
*Assists campus staff with the instruction of students and groups of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
*Assists students with individualized and group learning activities.
*Assists the classroom teacher and/or paraprofessional in the implementation and documentation of the student behavior management plan.
*Provides assistance to classroom teacher in the preparation and usage of instructional and behavioral materials.
*Collaborates with Program Coach in collating information, preparing reports, and providing data.
*Obtains and disseminates information regarding student lessons and progress.
*Performs other job-related duties as assigned through the appropriate chain of command.
