JOB DESCRIPTION: The elementary school principal, through the direct supervision and motivation of building personnel, establishes a school climate that inspires achievement, promotes self-actualization, is humanistic and encouraging, and fosters affiliation in relationships; leads school efforts in goal-setting and long-range planning; selects faculty and staff and conducts the appraisal process for each district employee assigned to the school site; provides leadership in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation; coordinates staff development activities; fosters community involvement; and manages the building on a day-to-day basis.
Develops and promotes good community relations among community and school clientele.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s degree with emphasis in curriculum, leadership and administration.
2. A Colorado Principal or Administrator license with elementary school endorsement.
3. Successfully demonstrated ability to collaborate with students, staff, parents, and the community.
4. Demonstrated effective instructional leadership practices by providing a clear vision of achievement for all through meaningful staff development and whole school design.
5. Demonstrated practices of assessing and promoting quality of classroom instruction through close monitoring, high visibility, communication, and high expectations.
6. Demonstrated effective leadership attributes: clear communication, extensive collaboration, integrity, optimism and energy.
7. Ability to guide all constituents to continual school improvement and growth that aligns with district vision and mission.
8. Ability to implement accountability through the SIP process, and data-driven decision making for curriculum, instruction and program evaluation.
9. Create systems and norms that demand physical and psychological safety for all.
10. Demonstrated success at providing a strong service orientation to students and parents.
11. Demonstrated successful experience as a school principal or assistant principal preferred.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides leadership in the day-to-day management of the school to ensure efficient operations.
2. Initiates, designs, implements and evaluates curriculum and student activities to promote consistency with the educational goals of the district and the school population.
3. Recommends to and works with appropriate personnel to recruit, screen, recommend, assign, orient and train quality certified and classified personnel.
4. Initiates frequent contact with students and staff by visiting classrooms regularly and by being generally visible and available throughout the building to promote effective interpersonal relationships.
5. Develops and implements decision-making processes that encourage the on-going participation of staff members in order to promote commitment and shared focus.
6. Supervises and conducts the appraisal process for all school staff according to Board of Education policy in order to improve and support instruction.
7. Confers and plans with staff members in order to promote personal and professional growth and to enhance the performance of school personnel in their assigned positions.
8. Coordinates and directs any special educational programs assigned to the building to promote student integration and program effectiveness.
9. Assigns teachers to guide the work of student and partner teachers to promote a successful experience for the aspiring educator.
10. Maintains a knowledge base of current information in educational issues and practices in order to respond to the changing educational needs of students.
11. Delegates authority to appropriate personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal or whatever deemed appropriate by the principal.
12. Develops and maintains a program of community relations that includes activities such as the regular publication of a school newsletter and the guidance of and participation in the school parent-teacher organization in order to encourage community involvement in the school.
13. Works with appropriate individuals to address the following school needs: curriculum, personnel, development of the staffing design, financial functions, maintenance, security, food services, transportation, building usage, and building construction.
