Math Specialist
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Masters Degree or higher
2. Math endorsement or mathematics specialist. Preferred additional elementary education endorsement.
3. Minimum 3 years classroom experience in teaching math
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
• To support the professional growth of school mathematics teachers by strengthening elementary endorsed classroom teachers’ understanding of math content knowledge as it applies to the curriculum standards.
• To promote enhanced mathematics instruction and student learning by helping teachers develop more effective mathematics teaching practices that allow all students to reach high standards as well as sharing research addressing how students learn mathematics.
• To train, supervise, and support the math coaches
PROFESSIONAL PERFORMANCE
1. To comply with school and school board policies and regulations.
2. To work cooperatively with the total staff.
3. To relate positively to parents and other community representatives.
4. To demonstrate professional growth.
5. To be prompt and accurate with required records and reports.
6. To demonstrate command of standard English, both spoken and written.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Coordinate the system-wide PreK-12 math program.
2. Direct and facilitate the role of math coaches and classroom teachers.
3. Plan with the PreK-5 and 6-12 Directors of Instruction to accomplish system goals for the math program.
4. Plan and deliver system and school level professional development activities related to math instruction.
5. Serve as a member of the district improvement planning (TCSSP).
6. Act as a consultant for regular classroom teachers to help support, supplement, and extend research-based classroom practices.
7. Collaborate to develop, implement, and oversee system-wide math benchmark assessments.
8. Compile and review math assessment data with math coaches.
9. Utilize data to develop professional development and plan with math coaches for quality math instruction in the classroom.
10.Supervise math coaches as they support instruction.
11.Collaborate with the building principals and regular classroom teacher to utilize assessment information to plan and implement appropriate math instruction.
12.Other duties as assigned by the Director of Schools
