Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
To perform this job successfully, the ESOL teacher must be able to perform Duties and Responsibilities satisfactorily. Knowledge of WIDA standards, GPS curriculum, techniques for integrating curriculum, Bibb County BOE policies, and effective instructional practices. Understanding of language acquisition. Ability to provide instruction and teaching suggestions for all language proficiency levels and learning styles. Ability to infuse technology into curriculum. Ability to work effectively with administrators, school based staff, students, parents and community interpreters. Excellent oral and written communication along with strong human relations skills.

Qualifications:
1) Must hold GA teaching certificate, preferably with a concentration in English/Language Arts.
2) Must hold the ESOL endorsement or be enrolled in a state-approved ESOL endorsement program. If ESOL teacher is required to teach content, the teacher must have passed the GACE in the subject.
3) Candidate must demonstrate a mastery of English language skills. A proficiency in Spanish or Gujarati is desired.

Candidates must have a strong interest in working with international students. Teacher will provide instruction to students at multiple schools. Therefore, reliable transportation is required for travel between multiple schools.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities to Lead Teacher
1) Prepare class schedule for approval.
2) Submit lesson plans for review.
3) Maintain accurate student records concerning ESOL eligibility and testing accommodations in permanent records.
4) Perform additional duties as assigned by ESOL Teacher.
5) Submit monthly mileage form for review (Itinerant Teachers only).

Responsibilities to School Administrator and Classroom Teachers
1) Make the ESOL program a positive presence in each school.
2) Offer teaching strategies and recommendations for accommodations (for both instruction and testing).
3) Provide on-going professional development about language acquisition and most effective practices in teaching ELLs
4) Follow professional practices consistent with school and system policies when working with students, students’ records, parents and colleagues.

Special Requirements:
Required to have reliable transportation for travel between schools. Required to attend ESOL department meetings. Communicating with parents after the instructional day will be necessary.

Salary, Terms, and Benefits:
1) 190 day work year; Start Date: July, 2010
2) Salary based on certification and experience; placement on the Georgia Annual Salary Schedule and position supplement(s).
